My friend Marjorie has been after me to start a blog for many months. I kept throwing out various titles that described my life at that moment and I kept coming back to My Life as a Sherpa. Generally, mentioning the word sherpa means having to explain what a sherpa is.

Apparently, there are many more meanings of sherpa than I was aware of: I just checked Google. The meaning that consider most apt is: the person who ends up carrying stuff for anyone else who doesn't want to, in other words: a mom.

I have 2 children, currently 9 and 11 years old. Since my 11 year old was 18 months old, he has known that a sherpa is someone who carries equipment up Mount Everest for climbers who can't carry all of their own stuff. Everytime he would say "Mom, I don't want to hold this.", I would reply, "I am not a sherpa, you wanted it, you carry it."
